Questions and answers

How does Illhighlights Windows & Siding work?

Illhighlights Windows & Siding is a referral service. We do not do the work. You tell us about your window or siding project. We connect you with an independent local provider in our network. The provider reviews your project and gives you a written estimate. You compare, then decide. You are never required to hire anyone.

How many windows do I need to replace?

Our network handles window replacement projects of two or more windows. It does not cover single-window jobs or repairs. If you have a few drafty or rotting windows, the project may qualify. Tell us the count and the rooms on the form. A provider will confirm the details with you.

How do I compare window replacement estimates?

Line up the written estimates side by side. Check the window brand and type, the frame material, and the glass package. Look at whether removal of old windows, trim work, and cleanup are listed. Check the warranty terms in writing. A low number can leave out key items, so match the scope first, then look at price.

Are energy efficient windows worth the extra money?

They can be. Energy efficient windows have better glass and tighter seals. That helps keep heat in and cold out, and it can cut drafts. In a damp, mild climate, good seals also help keep moisture out of walls. Savings vary by home. Ask each provider to explain the options and costs in writing.

Is vinyl siding a good choice for a rainy climate?

Vinyl siding is a common pick for wet areas. It does not rot and it needs little upkeep. It still needs good flashing, which is thin metal that guides water away. Proper install matters most. Ask providers how they handle moisture behind the siding, especially on older wood-frame homes.

How long does a project usually take?

Timing depends on the job size, the weather, and the provider's schedule. A few windows may take a day or two once work starts. Siding often takes longer. Ask each provider for a start window and an end estimate in writing, and expect rain to cause some delays.

Do I need to be home during the work?

Often someone should be there at the start and the end. Many providers want to walk through the plan and check the finished job with you. Ask about this when you compare estimates. You may also want to move furniture and clear the area around each window.

What should I check before I choose a provider?

Ask for a written estimate that lists materials, labor, and cleanup. Ask whether the provider holds the license your area requires, and ask for proof of insurance. Ask who does the work, and what the warranty covers. Providers in our network are independent, so confirm every detail yourself. If an offer feels rushed, step back. Compare, then decide.
